Multiple committee members raised that the possibility of some ship-assistance cannot be conclusively excluded, partly because some previous sightings from elsewhere in the region have been close to ports (and might themselves possibly have received some ship-assistance). While the records committee voted that another rarity found at the same site three weeks before this sighting (Long-eared Owl) was ship assisted, the vote for this record on balance was that it is a wild bird based on previous sightings of this species through Indochina, Peninsula Malaysia and Borneo suggesting vagrancy potential. |
