Identification |
---|
A green pigeon flashed past Jelutong Tower at the same height as the tower. It was close. Heading south. Appeared from nowhere and disappeared before I could even call "Cinnamon-headed green pigeon". Francis missed it, he was looking at an Asian brown flycatcher at the time. Green pigeon size and flight pattern, but with a striking warm orangeish head. My immediate reaction was that this was unmistakeably a male Cinnamon-headed green pigeon, but it was over all too quickly to make any proper assessment of plumage etc. So that's it. |
Habitat/behaviour |
---|
Flying roughly south, fast and direct, through the canopy of secondary forest in the central catchment. |
Viewing conditions |
---|
Perfect sunlight at just the right angle from behind the observer, naked eye views only but it was very close. |
Observer's experience |
---|
Seen on Pulau Ubin. |
Observer's experience w/similar species |
---|
Most common green pigeons in SE Asia. And Emerald dove, which should be considered even if to only confirm that I am happy it wasn't. |
