Identification |
---|
Saw a small grey flycatcher perch in front of me as I was walking. Stopped to get some better looks, had brought binoculars. Structurally looked like a Ficedula flycatcher, and along with the drab grey plumage and fully black bill led me to IDing as Taiga Flycatcher. Much darker upperside of tail seen as well compared to the body. Unfortunately did not take a photo because of the nature of the location (military camp) |
Habitat/behaviour |
---|
Just on a bare branch on a tree in the carpark, around eye level. Seen tail cocked once and brought down slowly like my previous sightings of this species |
Viewing conditions |
---|
Bright and sunny, bird around 5-6m away |
Observer's experience |
---|
Have seen in Berlayer Creek once in 2022, and on a few occasions in Central Thailand. |
Observer's experience w/similar species |
---|
Relatively familiar with the brown flycatchers of Singapore. Unfortunately did not get a frontal view of the bird, but could see its fully black bill which helped me rule out many of the other species. |
