Committee's view
Background
Some points suggesting possibly non-wild provenance were raised, but these were well refuted.

  • Apparently tame behavior: Published literature suggests this is not unusual for this species.
  • Timing (outside the northern migratory season, in June): Pied Cuckoos migrate from Africa to India during late spring/early summer (May–June), when there are also a number of vagrant records in the South China Sea. A vagrant to Singapore could easily be an overshoot from this migratory route.

Due to their ecology and rather specialized caterpillar diet, most cuckoos are also difficult to keep in captivity.

Ultimately, all members voted in favor of the record being a wild individual given the lack of evidence to suggest otherwise.
