Descriptions
Identification
I heard a continuous high pitched call with closely spaced notes, and identified it as a probable Pale-legged Leaf Warbler that Jacky Soh - who also has prior experience with this species - concurred with. Florence Lian recorded the call and the bird's identity was subsequently confirmed through a spectrogram (calling at about 6 kHz). Despite looking for it, we were not able to obtain any views of the bird. Total length of observation was approximately 4 minutes, from when the bird first starting calling to when it ceased, including pauses. Over this duration, the call became more intermittent, at times softer, then louder, consistent with a moving bird - we tried to locate the bird but to no avail, and were also limited by footpath accessibility. Note: Please credit the attached audio file to Florence Lian (permission has been sought from her, for it to be submitted together with this record).
Habitat/behaviour
Bird was not seen. It was calling from a bush/thicket, alongside a footpath.
Viewing conditions
Weather was cloudy and cooling.
Observer's experience
Jacky Soh and I have observed this species numerous times in Thailand where it is not uncommon during the migratory season.
Observer's experience w/similar species
Jacky Soh and I have observed the Pale-legged Leaf Warbler on multiple occasions in Thailand where they occur with the very similar Sakhalin Leaf Warbler (that is also not uncommon during the migratory season).
