Record was observed by multiple observers, so the committee agreed credibility was not in doubt. Although the bird was in an unusual location, there was no strong reason to suspect a non-wild provenance, especially considering the fact that it was apparently a collision victim. The committee agreed that the bird was more likely a genuine visitor from southern Johor rather than an escaped or released bird; the species is known to be dispersive and kingfishers do not fare well in captivity so their presence in the pet bird trade is generally perceived to be minimal. |
