Committee's view
Background
Record was observed by multiple observers, so the committee agreed credibility was not in doubt. Although the bird was in an unusual location, there was no strong reason to suspect a non-wild provenance, especially considering the fact that it was apparently a collision victim. The committee agreed that the bird was more likely a genuine visitor from southern Johor rather than an escaped or released bird; the species is known to be dispersive and kingfishers do not fare well in captivity so their presence in the pet bird trade is generally perceived to be minimal.
