Background |

From the eBird checklist: "saw it only briefly, and only as it flew up and popped down in the vegetation at the back left of Swamphen Hide. It was obviously a crake and showed that dull gingery brown head, chest, and underparts and clear barring on the rear flanks. I tried to turn it in to something commoner but, it does not fit Red-legged Crake, Ruddy-breasted Crake, Slaty-breasted Rail, or White-browed Crake. There was restricted barring on the rear flanks that would rule out Slaty-legged Crake. It was a small crake, so not a swamphen, moorhen, or Watercock." |
