No photographs taken by the primary observer, who has plenty of experience with Southeast Asian bulbuls, but detailed descriptions provided including: clear views of its streaked breast, rather plain face, uniform upper parts, and impressive long beak. A photograph of a Streaked Bulbul at the same site was also shared the next day on social media by another observer (not shown). |

Three Streaked Bulbuls flew in calling, landed inside tree, scoped - flew off calling - no pics! Bugger! Mega! Brief view in scope allowed streaked chest and long heavy beak to be noted. 0955hrs About five minutes after witnessing nine Cinereous Bulbul flying southeast, calling - I was walking towards the Ketam Quarry Lookout - I heard the distinctive call of Streaked Bulbuls (distinctive, because I had been playing it the previous day in a close by area! I was hoping, but not expecting, to bump in to this species considering the ongoing influx of the previously mentioned species). Anyway, looking roughly north I saw three bulbuls flying, I quickly tracked them in my 10 x 42 binoculars for a very short distance as they then landed in the crown of the tree with the thickest possible foliage. Fortunately, one was just visible in a small window. I trained my 25 x 85 telescope on the tiny window and could clearly see parts of a Streaked Bulbul...... I was attempting (but failed) to digi-scope an image - but all three quickly took flight, flew directly over my head and headed off southeast - calling as they went. Through the scope, the one individual was seen to shift position on its perch a couple of times, allowing clear views of its streaked breast, rather plain face, uniform upper parts, and impressive long beak. |
Habitat/behaviour |

I think they were newly arrived from Johor/Malaysia and actively migrating/irrupting. Paused briefly in the tree top, did not appear to feed - just paused and then set off again. |
